A Tale of Three Kings Review

A Tale of Three Kings Review –

A Tale of Three Kings by Gene Edwards is a worthwhile listen for anyone in church leadership. This dramatic retelling of the stories of Saul, David, and Absalom should give all leaders pause to think about what kind of leader they are and how to approach leadership.

However, I do not recommend this book for the average Christian. The book seems to advocate that regardless of what our leaders do or how far they stray from God’s will, we should simply submit to them because we never know how God is using them. The book does not take into account the goft of discernment that God gives us or our responsibility as Christians to lovingly hold one another accountable.

The style of the book was very easy to listen to and helps the listener to see the drama unfold. The narrator did a wonderful job and makes the many varied voices in the book come to live. Thanks to the christianaudio Reviewers Program (http://christianaudio.com) for providing the opportunity to listen to and review this book.

  1. I must disagree.
I hate arguing, but this is just food for thought :)
In every way this book is absolute necessary reading for any Christian. Of course there's always the danger of misunderstanding it. But that applies to the Bible too hah.
This books intent is to cause people to evaluate themselves, not their leaders. Your above statement had absolutely nothing to do with the book. It's people with opinions like yours that caused Mr. Gene to write this book in the first place.
Who are we to be so self-righteous as to determine whether or not our leader is "straying from the will of God."
What your saying is that submitting to your leader and "lovingly hold one another accountable" can't be the same thing. And that's where you may want to rethink your heart. Maybe you just said it wrong.. I see where you're coming from... But be careful when you think like that. The way God established authority is just the way Gene Edward describes. Is not what you just said exactly the same as where all the trouble begins? "If I were in charge, this is what I would do..."
It's a dangerous game. Is it really our place to question and not just question - but correct, the God-give authority over us?
And maybe that's it. Maybe you don't believe that authority is as God-given as you are Mr. "Barefoot Pastor". But if that's the case, then you should probably leave the place you're at, because you will only bring strife to them.
If youre confused about what the gift of discernment is, or what holding each other accountable means, perhaps you should read the Bible a bit more. Because I assure you, you're idea... That's not it.
Just some food for thought :) this book is all about a heart condition. Not an action.
